Writing: Exquisite Essay or Story!

Hi, hari ni aku nak share dengan korang sedikit sebanyak tips macam mana korang nak write a better essay or story in English. The keyword is write so tak kisahlah korang typing ke, talking ke, semua aku golongkan sekali dalam terma ‘write’ tu. Ok?

So first of all, your best friend is Google Translate. Hey, ramai yang tak tahu macam mana nak ‘abuse’ Google Translate ni. Mostly fikir Google Translate ni gunanya untuk translate words or untuk direct translate sentences yang too incomprehensible je. Bagi budak wicet pulak, itu cara untuk dorang don’t say brother no umbrella ok?

Ok so first, boleh buka Google Translate di link www.translate.google.com or click je SINI and lepas tu, bagi yang belum baca how to speak fluently, boleh baca disini! Apa guna post tu? Well, kat situ aku ada ajar on how to build simple sentences and expand dari situ.

So dari simple sentences, kau nak kasi essay kau tampak lebih gagah dan sexy, kau kene guna high level words yang tak semua orang simply guna in daily life. Dari situ, baru your reader (tak kisah la cikgu ke, makwe/pakwe hang ke, opponent ke, sesiapa ah!) akan nampak macam engkau ni not bad la, ada words yang jarang orang guna = kau guna.

Let’s start! Kita buat story about game. Simple sentence for starting yang kita akan guna ialah….

I was playing a game.

So, itu simple sentence, jadi macam mana kita nak upgrade dia jadi lebih menarik untuk dibaca? Kita kene tambah attribute dalam ayat tu. Kene tambah sedikit characteristic of feelings. So from that sentence, kita boleh tukar into..

I was playing a nice game.

Kita dah tambah “nice” tapi it doesn’t sound as great as it is, right now. Jadi, time to use Google Translate! Type “nice” into google translate setting from English to Malay.

So, kat bawah tu ada “definitions of Nice” kan? Kau boleh tukar nice into other synonyms ataupun maksud dia sendiri. So dari boring sentence macam “I was playing a nice game”, kau boleh now, tulis..

I was playing a gratifying game.

Kan dah sound tad bit impressive! At least, kau dah tambah satu vocab into your glossary and in the future, kau dah tahu apa maksud gratifying tu.

So nak sambung story essay kita, kita kena tambah lagi ayat, so let me continue yeah.. jadi aku akan tambah description game tu.

I was playing a gratifying game with awesome graphic and gameplay.

So, the main point kat sini, awesome ni sounds SOO BORING. Kita kene LIT IT UP, BUT HOW? Back to our old friend, Google Translate. TRANSLATE AWESOME NOW!

So tengok dekat definitions, ada explanation kat situ yang kau boleh swap maksud “awesome” tu. Kita try guna breathtaking, sebab it sounds so cool, is it not?

I was playing a gratifying game with breathtaking graphic and gameplay.

So much better dari just ‘nice’. Jadi, kita tambah another sentence untuk explain tentang essay kita tu.

I was playing a gratifying game with breathtaking graphic and gameplay. The scenery is beautiful.

So, the scenery is beautiful. Kita nak kene upgrade sikit game kita kat sini, rather than kita just guna beautiful, how about kita step up our game a little bit? GOOGLE BEAUTIFUL NOW!

Banyak gila sinonim dia, so kita kene pilih satu! Which one?  Let’s go with exquisite. Nampah gagah and ganaih sikit eh, dalam ayat ada pakai huruf ‘x’ gitu. Hahaha

I was playing a gratifying game with breathtaking graphic and gameplay. The scenery is exquisite.

Ha, so much for a great essay! And from there, kita kene tambah ‘penanda wacana’. Aku tak sure apa jadah penanda wacana ni dalam inggeris, aku always call it flourishes je. So, let’s add a flourish.

I was playing a gratifying game with breathtaking graphic and gameplay. The scenery is exquisite. Furthermore..

So, the chosen word here is furthermore, kita akan expand lagi, tambah ayat baru untuk explain tentang bertapa gempaknya game yang kita main ni.

I was playing a gratifying game with breathtaking graphic and gameplay. The scenery is exquisite. Furthermore, the storyline is great and enjoyable.

Ala, takkan guna great and enjoyable je?

We must upgrade lagi dan lagi! Google great and enjoyable!

Ok, so let’s go with “exceptional” and “entertaining”. Paling sesuai untuk describe our story!

I was playing a gratifying game with breathtaking graphic and gameplay. The scenery is exquisite. Furthermore, the storyline is exceptional and entertaining.

There you go. Kalau kau berterusan buat begini, ada chance yang cikgu kau akan melt dekat pemilihan word kau. Because I used to do it in my school and apparently, I used to gain a lot of attention from them since I used a lot of spectacular words.

Ok, wait, mesti ada yang tertanya-tanya, macam mana kalau basic English pun tak mampu, then how? Takpe, Google Translate boleh work the other way around. Kau tekan je arrow swap language tu. So dari English to Malay, swap jadi Malay to English. Find the word that you need.

Contohnya, kau nak buat ayat..

Nickosama’s blog is so… (menakjubkan)

Macam mana ni?? Ok takpe!

Ha, there you go. Pilihan ayat ada: fabulous, marvellous, astound(ing), tapi takkan la tu je kau nak describe blog aku? So kau tukar ke English > Malay, and see how it goes.

Ha, now dah ada banyak sikit ayat kau boleh pilih, dekat bawah tu. Amazing, astounding, staggering, surprising etc.. Jadi, cuba tengok apa ayat kita boleh buat..

Nickosama’s blog is so extraordinary.

Tapi wait, takkan extraordinary je? Kalau kau nak express something tu yang ‘waaaay tooo greaaaat’, combine aje dua2 word dari definition tu. Contohnya, kita ambik extraordinary + remarkable.

Nickosama’s blog is so extraordinarily remarkable!

Ha, so now dah nampak dasat sikit padahal semuanya the power google translate. Ini ada power handibook korang patut refer sometimes bila nak write. Aku tak ingat kat mana aku kutip gambar ni, tapi korang try la baca and guna.

So, aku harap aku dah sedikit sebanyak membantu korang and ada lah tambah sikit ilmu ke apa. Thank you for reading!
